“Share Your Luck Week"

Ways You Can Give Your Time, Talent or Treasure to Help Our Neighbors in Need

Today for Saint Patrick’s Day we are excited to launch “Share Your Luck Week” to highlight several ways you can give your time, talent or treasure to support our mission to prevent and alleviate the suffering of homelessness throughout San Diego County.

And because our Irish co-founders match all donations up to $1.5 million per year, we are being extra aspirational in encouraging you to share your luck and follow their lead to aid the less fortunate.

As such, if you are not yet a Lucky Duck Foundation donor, we are proposing a friendly challenge to “share your luck” by committing to support our efforts at one of the levels listed below.

Our St. Patrick’s Day “Share Your Luck” Challenge

  • 100 individuals who commit to donating $100

  • 25 individuals who commit to donating $1,000

  • 5 individuals who commit to donating $10,000

  • 50 individuals who commit to donating $25/month

  • 10 individuals who commit to joining the Legacy Society by including LDF in their estate

Other “Share Your Luck Week” opportunities

Join the Lucky Duck Coffee Club

Become a member of the Lucky Duck Coffee Club, a program where individuals and companies can purchase premium grade coffee where at least 30% of the purchase price will directly support LDF’s many programs. Individuals and companies are encouraged to purchase coffee that will prevent and reduce homelessness.

Submit Shamrocks & Shipwrecks

Submit your feedback on local efforts to address homelessness. Our Shamrocks & Shipwrecks scoring system holds San Diego County’s cities and elected leaders accountable by showcasing what is working so it can be replicated, and what is not working so it can be corrected or avoided. Strong actions that drive progress earn “Shamrocks,” while ineffectiveness and inaction earn “Shipwrecks.”

Be A Friend – Impact A Life

Be A Friend-Impact A Life is a step by step program designed to train and activate volunteers through service organizations to positively impact the lives of individuals experiencing homelessness through the power of friendship.

Through the Be A Friend program, you will be paired with a friend who is at risk of or experiencing homelessness so that they can feel heard, valued and understood, and through the power of friendship, live a life they desire.

Join the Legacy Society

The Lucky Duck Foundation’s Legacy Society honors everyone who has included the Lucky Duck Foundation in their estate plan.

You are entitled to be a member if you have included the Lucky Duck Foundation as a beneficiary in any of the following:

  • Will
  • Living Trust
  • Retirement Plan
  • Life insurance policy
  • Life income gift arrangement (charitable remainder trust, charitable gift annuity)

Volunteer in support of the homeless shelters purchased and installed by LDF and operated by Alpha Project

This includes the 325-bed bridge shelter in downtown San Diego for single adults and the Rosecrans bridge shelter which provides 150 emergency shelter beds. Volunteers can help the Alpha Project by organizing donation drives for items in need at the shelters, such as hygiene items, linens, clothes, shoes, blankets and bottled water.

Buy candles made by mothers overcoming homelessness at Home Start

“Our transition-age young mothers exiting from homelessness are very excited to participate in our Social Enterprise programs. We are so grateful for the generous LDF support of our Bright Futures Candles and Thrift Boutique programs. This valued partnership helps create a pathway to bright futures for these strong, capable, and resilient young mothers.”

Patronize Timmy’s Place for catering and printing needs

“Our youth are extremely grateful for the employment opportunity provided to them at Timmy’s Place. Public support of the pizzeria, and especially the catering and print businesses, are instrumental in employing them while also ‘teaching them to fish.’”

– Eric Lovett, Founder & CEO, Urban Street Angels

Volunteer for our Food & Water initiative

Since May 2020, our Food & Water initiative has delivered more than 2 million meals to unsheltered neighbors in San Diego County. Volunteers help by putting together meal kits in an assembly line, sorting and loading boxes of food & water.

Sponsor or attend the Spring Swing or Showcase Soirée

We host two annual fundraising events: the Spring Swing golf tournament (May 19) and the Showcase Soirée, an entertaining variety show meant to be unlike any other fundraising event (fall date TBD).

Sponsorship opportunities are detailed here. To discuss further, please email Events@LuckyDuckFoundation.org.

Simply be kind to our neighbors experiencing homelessness, because it’s the right thing to do.
