Cash For Trash

San Diego's new program deemed a huge early success

“Cash for Trash” enables homeless individuals to earn $2 for every bag of trash they clean up and dispose of. More than 200 tons of trash have been removed.

The idea behind this program came in part from an individual living on the streets who said, “If we had a place to put our trash, we’d clean up after ourselves.” Brian Trotier, volunteer extraordinaire, helped implement the program.

Every $275 raised removes approximately one ton of trash
