Be a Lucky Duckling

Are You Interested in Becoming a Lucky Duckling?

The Lucky Ducklings (Ducklings) is a youth-led movement whose mission is to alleviate the suffering of those experiencing homelessness throughout San Diego as a part of the Lucky Duck Foundation.

Our Lucky Ducklings, youth-led initiative is committed to all areas of homelessness, we have placed a special emphasis on supporting homeless youth.

The Ducklings have opportunities to learn about homelessness, volunteer and raise money to support Lucky Duck programs. Each Lucky Ducklings organization can create unique programs designed to make a difference

Here’s how you can share your luck.

  • Creating programs and strategies to help those in need
  • Using social media outreach to educate peers about homelessness and to encourage others to get involved
  • Raising awareness and funds for best-in-class youth homeless initiatives
  • Volunteering to support homelessness initiatives, including at the LDF Food & Water Distribution events
  • Ducklings come from all over San Diego County. Most organizations are schools, but participants can include sports teams, church groups, and other youth organizations.

In 2024, the Ducklings have packed more than 10,000 meals through the food and water initiative, and after a catastrophic flood in San Diego, they sorted more than 700 warm jackets and coats through Sharia’s Closet the weekend after the flood. Additionally, they raised thousands of dollars to fund sleeping bag coats during the 2023 Giving Tuesday campaign, and were awarded the NCRC Local Peacemaker award (more details on award below).

We’d love to have you join us. Are you interested in sharing your luck? You don’t have to be a part of a group to join. For questions or additional information, email our Program Manager.

Congratulations to the Lucky Ducklings!

The Lucky Ducklings’ youth-led movement of local high school students focused on advancing LDF’s mission have been selected by the National Conflict Resolution Center as this year’s recipient of the Local Peacemaker AwardThe Ducklings were honored at NCRC’s April 13 event at the Hilton Bayfront.

Per the Union-Tribune, “The Lucky Ducklings are committed to giving back to the San Diego community. If you wonder about our country’s future, you can look to the Ducklings for assurances we’ll be fine. The National Conflict Resolution Center selected the group as this year’s Local Peacemaker Award winner… When you look at the Ducklings’ activity calendar, you wonder how they manage to get their school work done. They serve meals at local shelters; sort and distribute clothing and supplies; and conduct online fundraising campaigns. When the Ducklings aren’t doing hands-on projects, they are thinking about strategies to address homelessness. They hosted three events last year: an innovation competition, part of their annual symposium on youth homelessness; and two leadership workshops, along with the Lucky Duck Foundation.”

Not a Duckling, but still want to get involved?

Consider making a donation to LDF’s general fund. Every dollar donated (up to $1.5 million per year), is matched by LDF co-founders and will be used to fund and activate high-impact programs throughout San Diego City and County that are best-in-class, fact-based, cost-effective and show results.

Faisal Badani Lucky Ducklings Impact Initiative

Faisal was a 2nd generation Lucky Duck. Faisal embodied the spirit of sharing your luck. And like a lot of things he did, Faisal brought his friends along for the ride. “Be like Faisal” was a common mantra.

Faisal had a love for baseball, luxury cars and watches, the Villanova Wildcats, and the Lucky Duck Foundation, which was his favorite nonprofit organization. He learned about the Lucky Duck Foundation through his father Abe and mother Zarina, who are a longtime and generous supporters.

To honor and perpetuate Faisal’s legacy, we created the “Faisal Badani Lucky Ducklings Impact Initiative,” where beginning in 2022 and every year thereafter, the Lucky Duck Foundation will set aside at least $25,000 to fund a difference-making program or programs, which will be selected in part by the Lucky Ducklings.
