The Lucky Duck Foundation and City of Carlsbad are teaming up to launch a $360,000 matching challenge to activate critically needed shelter beds at Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego’s La Posada de Guadalupe Men’s Shelter in Carlsbad.
An initial $360,000 commitment—$180,000 each from the Lucky Duck Foundation and the City of Carlsbad—will fund the staffing, meals, case management and supportive services necessary to open 15 new shelter beds.
But there are 30 more beds ready and waiting to open.
What is needed now is funding to safely operate them. This is where the community can help.
The Lucky Duck Foundation and the city of Carlsbad will match every dollar raised, dollar-for-dollar, up to $360,000—potentially generating $720,000 to help bring more homeless neighbors indoors.
“These urgently needed beds come at a time when nine out of 10 requests for shelter go unfulfilled,” said Drew Moser, CEO of the Lucky Duck Foundation. “La Posada is both a safe haven and a launching pad for stability and independence. We’re proud to partner with the City of Carlsbad and Catholic Charities to activate critically needed shelter capacity and help more people find a path to a brighter future.”
“Expanding access to shelter is a critical part of addressing homelessness. Through our longstanding partnership with the La Posada de Guadalupe Shelter, we can help more people get off the streets and connect with services they need to work toward stable housing,” said Carlsbad Mayor Keith Blackburn.
“La Posada has served men experiencing homelessness in North County, providing a safe place to stay, meals and supportive services that help residents work toward greater stability and independence,” said Appaswamy “Vino” Pajanor, CEO of Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego. “The beds are here and ready. As funds are secured, we can add capacity to give more people a safe place to sleep and the support they need to move toward stable housing.”
The expansion comes as shelter capacity remains critically constrained throughout San Diego County. By leveraging public, philanthropic and community funding, the partnership offers a tangible way to turn existing, unused beds into immediately available shelter and services.
Your donation supports the matching campaign and helps activate additional beds at La Posada.
